The 2-port eSATA RAID ExpressCard/34 Host Adapter supports a single-lane 2.5Gb per second PCI Express bus, and has a SATA II transfer rate up to 3.0 Gb per second. It bridges a connection between 2-port eSATA RAID ExpressCard/34 Host Adapter devices and the host computer, plus delivers a dramatic increase in speed over the standard USB 2.0 and FireWire. Point to point SATA connection eliminates the need for conversion of the 2-port eSATA RAID ExpressCard/34 Host Adapter signal to a second interface, and unlocks the full potential of the SATA II data transfer speed when in use. For example, it is compatible with eSATA HDD RAID systems or enclosures. The SATA HDD RAID Systems can help provide RAID storage management options, including: RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10, and JBOD.

The identical protocol and signaling of the 2-port eSATA RAID ExpressCard/34 Host Adapter allows native SATA devices to be used with external enclosures, and with minimal modification. Most external HDD enclosures with FireWire or USB interfaces support either PATA or SATA drives; and provides a "bridge" between the drive's interface and the enclosure's external port. This bridging may incur some inefficiency. During real use, some of the single HDD can transfer up to 120 MB/s. This is twice as much as the maximum USB 2.0 or FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394s) transfer rates, and over the maximum FireWire 800 transfer rate.

Low-level drive features such as S.M.A.R.T. may not be operated through USB or FireWire bridging, but the 2-port eSATA RAID ExpressCard/34 Host Adapter will solve this issue.
  • Offers a simple upgrade solution for computer systems with a PCI-Express card slot

  • Provide a "bridge" between the drive's interface and the enclosure's external port

  • Supports a single-lane 2.5Gb per second PCI Express specification, but has a SATA II transfer rate up to 3.0 Gb per second

  • Delivers a dramatic speed increase with two independent SATA ports

  • Extends connection to SATA HDD RAID systems or enclosures with SATA port brackets and hot plug support

  • Supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5*, RAID 10*, and JBOD

  • *External devices capable of supporting port multipliers can utilize the RAID 5 and RAID 10 features.
